What You Need to Rent

  • Age: 18 or older

  • Licence: a valid motorcycle licence for either motorcycle. A regular car licence is enough for the automatic scooter.

  • Experience: you've ridden before. The Chiapas highlands are not where you learn — steep grades, fog, topes, and free-roaming livestock are all normal here.

  • Documents: we photograph your passport and licence for the contract. We do not keep your passport.

  • Deposit: cash, equal to the full rental fee for your booking (see below)

Full details and the agreement text are on the rental requirements page.

Deposit and Damage Policy

The cash deposit equals the total rental fee for your booking. A two-day Dakar rental is $2,200 in rental plus $2,200 held as deposit, returned in full when you bring the bike back in the condition it left in.

There is liability insurance on the motorcycles and scooters. You are responsible for the full cost of any damage to the motorcycle, to other people's property, and any costs from an injury.

This is standard for independent rentals in Mexico, and it's the reason we only rent to riders with real experience. Ride within your ability, park it somewhere safe, and this is a non-issue.

Delivery, Pick up, and Hours

We bring the bike to your hotel, hostel, or Airbnb anywhere in San Cristóbal and you drop it back off at our office. The rental day ends at 6:00 PM. Late returns are $80 MXN per hour. A lost key is $1,000 MXN.

Family Motorhomes

  • fully equipped:

Where You Can Ride

Anywhere. There's no distance limit on our rentals — the highland villages, the Sumidero Canyon rim, the road toward Ocosingo, Palenque, the coast, or across the state line. Roadside help covers 15 km around San Cristóbal; beyond that, a breakdown is yours to sort out, so pick the bike that suits the trip (the Dakar 300 for long or rough routes).

If you'd rather ride with someone who knows the roads, we run guided motorcycle tours — a full day on the back of the bike, or a self-ride loop with a guide leading.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a motorcycle licence to rent the scooter?

No. A regular car licence is enough for our automatic scooters. Both motorcycles (the Dakar 300 and the Honda 125) require a motorcycle licence.

Can two people ride on one bike?

Yes, on every bike we rent, with a second helmet. For a lot of steep mountain riding two-up, the Dakar 300 is the most comfortable.

Is there insurance?

Yes. There is only liabilty on motorcycle & scooter rentals, and the renter is fully responsible for personal harm or damage. The cash deposit covers minor issues; you're liable for anything beyond it.

What happens if the bike breaks down?

If it's a mechanical fault and you're within 15 km of San Cristóbal, we come to you. Outside that radius, recovery is your cost. We check every bike before handover and you have 10 minutes at pickup to flag anything.

Can I take the bike to Palenque or Tuxtla?

Yes. There's no distance limit. If you're not coming back, choose a one-way drop-off and leave the bike there.

Is there a discount for longer rentals?

Yes — rent for a week and save 10%.

How much is the deposit?

Cash, equal to your total rental fee. Returned in full on a clean return.
