About Mayab Experiences

Mayab Experiences is a motorcycle rental and tour operation based in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. "Mayab" is the Maya word for this region — the land of the Maya. We use it because that's what we want the trips to be about: the place, not a checklist.

We do three things. We rent motorcycles and scooters to travelers who want to explore Chiapas on their own. We guide rides — day loops and multi-day expeditions — for people who'd rather have someone who knows the roads. And we run small-group camping trips to the waterfalls, canyons, and jungle lakes that the standard day tours skip or rush.

company story and mission

Our journey began with a passion for open-road adventures and a goal to make travel easier and more accessible. What started as a simple idea has grown into a trusted rental service offering well-maintained RVs for every type of traveler.

Who Runs It

Mayab is run by Mason, who has spent more than 13 years travelling — 130-odd countries, mostly on a budget, mostly outdoors. He got to Chiapas the long way, riding a motorcycle down from Tennessee — and the trip ended in San Cristóbal de las Casas because he stayed.

He's ridden well over 25,000 kilometres in Mexico alone, through every state in the country, and has ridden on five continents: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

That riding is the reason the rental side of Mayab exists. Covering that kind of distance teaches you what a bike needs to be reliable on bad roads, how mountain weather turns, what a checkpoint is actually like, and how to read a route you've never seen. It's also why the fleet is small and maintained by hand rather than large and rented hard.

Mason lives here full-time and is learning Tzotzil, the Maya language spoken in the highland villages around San Cristóbal — which is part of how the cultural tours and the pox visit work the way they do.

Who Guides You:

For now, Mason guides every trip himself — so the person you message is the person you ride with. More guides are joining soon, and they'll be introduced here.

How We Work

Our values focus on comfort, safety, and adventure—ensuring every traveler enjoys a smooth, secure, and inspiring journey. We prioritize relaxed experiences, reliable protection, and the spirit of exploration that makes every trip unforgettable.

  • Small Groups & Private trips

Our tours are private by default. When we say small group, we mean it — we're not filling a van

  • Bilingual, Every Trip

Every guide speaks English and Spanish. You pick.

  • We maintain our own bikes

The rental fleet is small on purpose. We check every motorcycle before it goes out and we know its history.

  • Direct Booking

You talk to us, not a reseller. That's why the prices work.

  • Prices on the Site

Every rate is published. You'll know what a trip costs before you message us.

Where We Operate

San Cristóbal de las Casas and the surrounding highlands, the Central Depression of Chiapas, the Lacandon jungle, and the route toward Palenque. Our rentals have no distance limit, and guided expeditions go anywhere in the region.

We're based at Prol. Cuitláhuac 4 in Barrio de la Merced, San Cristóbal de las Casas (entrance around the back, on Calle Periodista Isauro Rossete), and we're open 24/7, all year round.
